Smart named new chief of BIA law enforcement

BIA Chief of Police Thomas Smart was appointed in April. He worked Nevada Prisons as a Correctional Officer in Lovelock and Carson City before becoming a BIA Police Officer. He became a BIA Police Officer in October 2001, working for the BIA Eastern Nevada Agency. He completed Indian Police Academy in April 2002, class of 91 at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy in Artesia, NM. He then became a Sergeant for the BIA Crow Agency, Crow Agency, MT and later became the Acting Chief for Crow Agency. He returned to the Eastern  Nevada Agency, Owyhee, NV in September 2008 and is now the present Chief of Eastern Nevada Agency. Not only does he oversee the Duck Valley Tribe but all the tribes in the Eastern side of Nevada.
